3 Steps for Effective Delegation One of the most important skills a professional can have to become a great leader is the skill of delegating. When you effectively delegate a task, you are freed up to focus on more challenging, strategic work, and your employee has a chance to grow and develop. Employees enjoy the challenge of new types of work and appreciate being developed by their bosses. Effective delegating benefits everyone involved. So, why don’t we do it more?
My coaching clients tell me that a variety of challenges hold them back from delegating more. They tell me:
The problem is that by holding onto the work they’ve always done, they are not growing. Neither are their employees. We often get into a vicious “non-delegating cycle”. We don’t delegate, so we’re overwhelmed with work. We are then way too busy to delegate so we don’t delegate. Sound familiar? To delegate successfully, we need to break this cycle. We can do this by following these three steps:
Delegating is an important part of leadership because it has so much to do with growing others and setting an example.
